ALL THE KEY HAIR TRENDS TO COME OUT OF PAYPAL MELBOURNE FASHION FESTIVAL 2022

With our Co-Creative Director (& the Festivals Hair Director), Joey Scandizzo.

From the 3rd-12th March, our Co-Creative Director, Joey Scandizzo worked tirelessly backstage with his team of stylists to create the mesmerising hair trends we saw on the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival runway, across every show!

Melbourne's ACMI - the Australian Centre for the Moving Image - was brought to life with a show presented by VOGUE Australia and Samsung Galaxy. Like the entirety of MFF, it was a celebration of homegrown talent. Amongst the designers who sent their ready-to-wear ensembles down the runway were Acler, Aje, alice McCALL, BEC + BRIDGE, Bianca Spender, GINGER & SMART, Lee Mathews, Manning Cartell, nevenka, Romance Was Born and STRATEAS CARLUCCI.

RUNWAY 1

"This look was all about a natural finish and a beautiful, healthy shine. It was all about minimalism and softness. Damp hair was prepped with MIRACLE HAIR TREATMENT to hydrate the hair, prevent split ends, and enhance the hair's natural shine. We then pulled it back into a low ponytail with a slight bend through the mid-lengths to encourage movement. We finished the style off with GIVE ME HOLD FLEXIBLE HAIRSPRAY for control that also kept the hair looking soft and natural." JS

"We created a few slightly different looks for this show, all dependant on what the models had naturally going on. We created a lot of dry texture that worked with the models' natural style. We created a centre part and kept hair flat, close to the head with hair being smoothed behind the ears and either flowed freely at the back, tucked into their collars and coats or slicked and pulled back into a bun." JS

“My go-to product for these styles were our DRY FINISH TEXTURE SPRAY, SMOOTH & SHINE ANTI-FRIZZ SERUM (for the buns), GIVE ME HOLD FLEXIBLE HAIRSPRAY and MAKE ME SHINE SPRAY GLOSS for maximum gloss, hold and shine." JS

“This look was so much fun to create. We took a middle part and slicked the hair down behind the ears and really accentuated the shine on the hair using our SMOOTH & SHINE ANTI-FRIZZ SERUM and SLICK HOLD STYLING POMADE. We added hair pieces to extend out 4 braids, 2 in the front and 2 at the back and finished off with GIVE ME HOLD FLEXIBLE HAIRSPRAY for hold." JS

"We worked with models' natural cuts and texture for this show, so everyone had an individual vibe. I loved that I got to use all of our styling tubs for the show as everyone's hair was so different." - Joey Scandizzo

  • "I loved this show, our brief was to think 'women out on country'. We had variations of textured, tied back buns as well as lots of beautiful, natural curls, and some straighter, sleeked back looks." JS

CLOSING RUNWAY

Presented by VISIT MELBOURNE and Harper's BAZAAR

After a vast and vibrant Melbourne Fashion Festival it certainly demanded a thrilling finale with lots of colour, style and disco balls. Harper's BAZAAR's Closing Runway at Margaret Court arena was all that, and more. Featured designers included Carla Zampatti, Romance Was Born, Mariam Seddiq, STRATEAS CARLUCCI, JASONGRECH and Cappellazzo.

"This show was in a huge venue with loads of models, so we decided to create two different looks. The first was out and just a beautiful, soft blow dry with a natural sheen finish, slicked back. We used I WANT BODY VOLUME FOAM to prep the hair and add body through the mid lengths and ends and SLICK HOLD STYLING POMADE to secure and hold the shape." JS

The second look had a mode textured finish. My products of choice for this style were our DRY FINISH WAX SPRAY and SMOOTH & SHINE ANTI-FRIZZ SERUM which helped us create this mix-match texture and high shine." JS
